A saffron flower - used to produce the worlds most expensive spice. The red stigmas are the part used in cooking. It takes 1000 saffron flowers to produce 100g of Saffron - so no wonder it is the world's most expensive spice.
Saffron is used in many Persian dishes, in Turkey to flavour coffee, to add colour and flavour to Italian risotto, and Spanish Paella.
